Online Contest Page

Hand-in system and registration for Open and Future stars

There will be an online version of the final round of the South African Computer Olympiad of 2008. There are two divisions:

• Open: Same problems as on-site, open to anyone.
• Future stars: Some problems from the Open division, the rest at a lower difficulty level. Targetted at future stars who have the opportunity to make the on-site of the Open division, but open to anyone.

The online contest will be held at the following times: (click links for times in various timezones)

• Saturday 27 September at 13:30 to 18:30 SAST (11:30 to 16:30 GMT)
• Sunday 28 September at 10:00 to 15:00 SAST (08:00 to 13:00 GMT)

You can register for the online contest here for the Open division and here for the Future stars. Accounts from one of our previous contests should still work. Practice problems are available here

A forum, linked from the hand-in system will be provided for clarification requests. Questions and other issues can also be sent to online-contest@olympiad.cs.uct.ac.za.

Firefox is the only fully supported browser. IE has given issues in the past with downloading problems so we will make static copies available here after the contest has started.

Haskell

In addition to C/C++, Java, Pascal and Python provided for the on-site contestants, Haskell submissions will also be accepted for the online contest. Haskell support is still somewhat experimental, so the documentation does not mention it. The important points are:

• Your submitted file must have a ".hs" extension
• We compile with ghc-6.6.1 -Wall -O2
• We pass RTS options to set the maximum and recommended heap size according to the memory limit.
